Would You Be Married to You?

By Becky Hunter

Here’s a question for you: Would you want to be married to you?

Once upon a time, you fell in love with a man who was called into ministry. You were excited about your “role” alongside him. You could see all of the potential of doing life together. You desired to serve God well; you hoped to sow into the Kingdom; you longed to live the adventure. You wanted to make God proud; you wanted to be someone in whom He would be “well pleased.”

That was then; this is now.

Are you continually encouraging the man you married: loving and honoring him with your respect? Do you choose to faithfully serve alongside him, doing life together? Are you blessing those around you—serving God, sowing into the Kingdom and living the adventure?

I hope so.

A faithful wife, choosing to partner with her husband to accomplish God’s assignment, has for centuries encouraged the believing community. And even more importantly, such a woman has caused unbelievers to consider the Good News of Jesus Christ. May it be said of us, as it was of the pastors’ wives in the earliest centuries of the church, by Libanius, the Greek rhetorician and philosopher, “What women these Christians have!”

A good woman is hard to find, and worth far more than diamonds. Her husband trusts her without reserve, and never has reason to regret it. Never spiteful, she treats him generously all her life long. –Proverbs 31:10-12 (The Message)

Pastor's must be equally supportive of the good women who co-labor beside them.
