Live Day By Day
By Becky Hunter
Recently I had an opportunity to spend some time with Kay Warren, a pastor’s wife with a heart as passionate for Jesus Christ and the work of ministry as that of her well-respected and extremely well-known husband, Rick Warren.
During our time together, Kay gave me a book, a spiritual classic, by one of her favorite writers, Fenelon. Now, having read The Seeking Heart, I understand why she loves it. The book is filled with the godly wisdom of Frenchman, Francois de Sagnac de La Mothe-Fenelon, born in 1651. Just as a pastor’s wife encouraged me with this book of devotional thoughts, I would like to encourage you with just one of the more than 100 inspirations Fenelon penned in his book.
Live Day by Day Your spiritual walk is a little too restless and uneasy. Simply trust God. If you come to Him, He will give you all that you need to serve Him. You really need to believe that God keeps His word. The more you trust Him, the more He will be able to give you. If you were lost in an uncrossable desert, bread would fall from Heaven for you alone.
Fear nothing but to fail God. And do not even fear that so much that you let it upset you. Learn to live with your failures, and bear with the failures of your neighbors. Do you know what would be best for you? Stop trying to appear so mentally and spiritually perfect to God and man. There is a lot of refined selfishness and complacency in not allowing your faults to be revealed. Be simple with God. He loves to communicate Himself to simple people. Live day by day, not in your own strength, but by completely surrendering to God.
I am praying for you as you sit down in your worship service this weekend. I hope you, too, will join me in praying for all the pastors’ wives who are scattered throughout the world. |
